Obituary

Marie F. Tandy, age 96, of Evans, Georgia, formerly of Madison, Indiana and the daughter of the late Joe and Mae (Fritz) Bolton, was born on June 7, 1929, in Lily, Kentucky. She moved to Madison with her family and later married James E. DeBurger. They were blessed with four children: Charlotte Mae, Stella Lee, James Mark, and Daniel Allan. While she worked outside the home for brief periods, Marie devoted most of her life to caring for her family as a homemaker. During their early years of raising children, the family relocated several more times before eventually settling in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

In 1968, Marie married William "Bill" Tandy and made her home in Jefferson County. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and enjoyed reading, traveling, taking walks outdoors, and, above all, spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid animal lover who found great joy in caring for pets and shared a special bond with Micsha, Phoebe, and Betsy. For the past 22 years, Marie resided in Evans, Georgia, where she was a devoted member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church and actively participated in the church's senior citizens group. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society for a short time. Marie was kind, loving, and always ready to lend a help to any child in need. Mrs. Tandy passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026 at Brookdale Senior Living in Augusta, Georgia.

Her life will be cherished by her daughters: Charlotte Mae Riley and her husband, Tom of Evans, Georgia, and Stella Brunner of Madison; her daughter-in-law: Mary DeBurger of Jeffersonville, Indiana; her grandchildren: Aaron Purvis, Kevin Riley, Stephanie Purvis, Sarah Moyer, Kristopher Riley, Kenneth Riley, Jamie DeBurger, and Josh DeBurger; her great grandchildren: Amber Purvis, Aaliyah Green, Skyler Denton, Avrey Green, Riley Denton; Aaryanna Purvis, Kayleigh Riley, Vivian Riley, Audrey Riley, Kolton Riley, Lincoln DeBurger, Gracie DeBurger, Emma DeBurger, Quinn Moyer, Charlie Petty, Angie Hernandez Ayala and Rodrigo Hernandez Ayala; her great great grandchildren: Destani Harmon, Zane Craig, Bryson Craig, and Emmerson Craig; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons: James Mark DeBurger and Daniel Allen DeBurger; her son-in-law: Mark Brunner; and her siblings: Robert Bolton, Julie Sturgill, Dan Bolton, Samantha Youngblood, James Bolton, Joseph "Junior" Bolton, Coleman Bolton, and Jewel Jones.
