Obituary

Lory L. Harrod, age 66, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late Charles E. "Shotgun" and Dorothy E. (Berghofer) Harrod, was born on April 10, 1960, in Madison. He was a 1979 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School and began his lifelong career with the Indiana Department of Transportation in September of 1979. Based out of the Seymour, Indiana office, he dedicated 47 years to the state highway department, most recently serving as an inspector in the construction division. A devoted member of his community, Lory was a 46-year member of the Western Fire Company No. 3, where he grew up in the firehouse and especially enjoyed helping with their annual fish fry during the Madison Regatta. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion, the Legion Riders of the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9 American Legion, and the VFW Post 1969.

In his spare time, Lory cherished his farm, where he spent countless hours mowing, cutting trees in the woods, taking meticulous care of his yard, and caring for his animals. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and watching WWE and NASCAR. Above all, Lory treasured being a father to his two sons, Skyler and Loren. He supported them in all their endeavors, showing tough love at times but always seeking the very best for them. Known for his loving, caring, and honest nature, Lory never met a stranger. Mr. Harrod passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026 at his residence in Madison after a courageous battle with cancer.

His life will be cherished by his sons: Staff Sergeant Skyler Harrod, U.S. Air Force, and Loren Harrod, both of Madison; his sister: Mary "Pee Wee" Elliott of Madison; his brother: Charles "Pete" Harrod and his wife, Martha of Madison; his nephews: Duane Ralston and his wife, Kim of Lexington, Indiana and Clint Elliott of Hanover, Indiana; his niece: Heather Holt and her husband, Brent of Madison; several great nieces, nephews, and cousins, and too many great friends to list. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Ralston and her husband, Darrell.

Pastor Frank McGee will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 28, 2026 at the Welty Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Lytle Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison with interment to follow in Springdale Cemetery in Madison.
