Jessie Caroline Stewart, age 100, of Madison, Indiana, and the daughter of the late Lester E. and Ethel (Eaglin) Sailor, was born on April 6, 1926, in Madison. She was united in marriage to Joseph William Stewart and they were blessed with eight children. For more than 30 years, she devoted herself to serving others through her work at the former Welfare Department. Jessie enjoyed painting, reading, tending to her vegetable garden, and spending time with friends at the Madison Senior Citizen's Center. She was a member of Ryker's Ridge Baptist Church and the Red Hat Society. Mrs. Stewart passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at her residence in Madison, with her loving family by her side.

Jessie's life will be cherished by her daughters: Jessie "Jennie" Copeland and her husband, Gene of Madison, Margurite Bedwell and her husband, Rob of Ormond Beach, Florida, Loren Mavromati of Redondo Beach, California, and Darragh Wilson and her husband, David of Columbus, Indiana; her son: John Stewart and his wife, Rhonda of Milton, Kentucky; her sister: Edith Light of Louisville, Kentucky; 24 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and 14 great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Stewart who passed away on April 11, 1997; her son: Joseph Lester Stewart who passed away on April 28, 2012; her daughter, Mary Fugate; one step-son: William H. Stewart; and three sisters: Mary Ramsey, Ann Leland, and Jean Humphrey.

Private interment took place in Springdale Cemetery.
