Obituary

Charlena Cherrie Booker, age 54, of Seymour, Indiana, and the daughter of the late Dorothy Houston, was born on November 19, 1971, in Seymour. Following high school, Charlena enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where she proudly and faithfully served her country until her honorable discharge.

For many years, Charlena devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mother, taking great pride in providing a loving and nurturing home where her children could grow and make memories. She loved cruising around in her convertible Mustang with Steve Perry, Boyz II Men, or Johnny Gill playing in the background. She enjoyed playing Mario on her Nintendo, playing the drums, dancing, and occasionally having breakfast at the Sunshine Cafe in Seymour. She loved reading her Bible and adored her pit bull, Azula, especially when it meant taking her out for a cheeseburger.

Charlena was never afraid to sing loud and proud, share her quick wit, or offer a little sarcasm when the moment called for it. She had a particular weakness for sweet treats, especially Chico Sticks. More than anything, though, Charlena will be remembered for the person she was. She was one of the most honest people you could ever meet-compassionate, caring, honorable, and beautiful, both inside and out. She loved deeply, spoke her mind at times, but always remained true to herself. Charlena passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 17, 2026 at her residence in Seymour.

Her life will be cherished by her children: Christopher Booker of Seymour, and Courtney Paige Booker Rogers of Columbus, Indiana; her grandson: Cooper Wayne Bailey Booker; and her friend, Jim Grant of Seymour. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Houston; her brother: Robbie Rogers; and her sister: Tammy Rogers.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 PM Noon Friday, August 28, 2026 at the Welty Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Lytle Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison, Indiana, with interment to follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Friends and family may visit at the Welty Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Lytle Chapel from 11:00 AM until the time of the service on Friday.

The Honor Guard of the United States Marine Corps and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion will provide military honors.
